The wait is nearly over – CarX Drift Racing 3 is coming to Android and iOS in just a couple of weeks, bringing the most ambitious evolution of the series yet.

Alongside the release date announcement, fresh gameplay footage gives us another exciting look at what’s coming to mobile platforms.

PC, Xbox, and PlayStation fans will have to wait a little longer as we’re still waiting on an official release date for these.

If you want further information on the game, be sure to take a look at our in-depth CarX Drift Racing 3 guide, which gives you everything you need to know about the upcoming release.

For now, let’s take a look at what we’re treated to in the latest reveal trailer, teasing what we’ll get to enjoy when the official December 5 release date arrives:

The clip opens with an intense tandem battle between a widebody Nissan Silvia 180SX S13 and a MKIV Toyota Supra.

The attention to detail is immediately apparent, with the Supra’s anti-lag system spitting out flames as both cars line up at the start, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

We also get further confirmation of the legendary Ebisu Circuit Complex being in the game, showcasing the iconic entrance and area map, suggesting we’ll get access to all seven tracks within the complex:

  • Minami: The legendary South Course, famous for its challenging jump
  • Nishi: The technical West Course
  • Kita: The North Course
  • Higashi: The East Course
  • Drift Land: Dedicated drift circuit
  • School Course: Training facility track
  • Touge: Mountain pass
  • KuruKuru Land: A skid pad typically used for practice and testing

Alongside Ebisu, the game will feature various other locations, including the Nürburgring Nordschleife, Dominion Raceway, Kami Road, ADM Raceway, and an all-new custom track creator feature.

In the next scene, a widebody Nissan Silvia S15 appears before launching itself over the famous Minami jump – a piece of drifting history that sadly no longer exists in real life.

The sequence ends with the all-too-common sight of the S15 meeting the concrete wall, showing off CarX Drift Racing 3’s incredible new damage modeling system.

Unsurprisingly, the environment variety looks promisingly varied, with the next scene shifting to rural Japanese “Kami Road” streets lined with cherry blossom trees and traditional architecture.

Next, a clean Toyota Mark II JZX81, sitting on what appear to be Work Emotion Kiwami wheels, touches onto the street drifting and touge features by heading out for some streeto.

The trailer closes with a modern tandem battle between a Subaru BRZ (or Toyota GR86) and a new Ford Mustang at ADM Raceway, a track well-known in the Russian Drift Series (RDS). Both cars sport aggressive widebody kits and serious angle mods while going door-to-door.

We’re more hyped than ever for CarX Drift Racing 3, and you can download it on the Google Play Store or iOS App Store on December 5, 2024.

Thanks to the CarX team’s typical short-notice announcements, there’s not long to go! If you wish to keep up-to-date with the latest CarX announcements, head to the CarX Technologies official website.

CarX Drift Racing 3 is set to shake up drift gaming with insane damage simulation alongside a host of exciting new features and substantial improvements.

featuredimage carx drift racing 3 release date

In recent years, CarX revolutionized the drift game landscape as we know it, establishing itself as the go-to arcade drifting simulator for enthusiasts seeking a more focused, track-based experience without the steep learning curve of realistic simulators like Assetto Corsa.

The original CarX Drift Racing mobile game amassed over 30 million downloads, paving the way for CarX Drift Racing Online, which debuted on Steam for PC players in 2017. The game later expanded to Xbox and PlayStation consoles in 2020, with a Nintendo Switch release in 2021.

While mobile gamers have enjoyed a variety of new titles from CarX Technologies in the meantime, including CarX Racing 2, CarX Highway Racing, CarX Rally, and CarX Street, PC, and console players have been limited to CarX Drift Racing Online, eagerly awaiting a new installment.

True to form, CarX Technologies is building suspense by slowly teasing information about what CarX Drift Racing 3 will offer, much to the frustration of impatient fans who often joke that GTA 7 will arrive before the new CarX game.

jdm cars hangout ebisu carx drift racing 3 release date

For those unfamiliar with the series, CarX Drift Racing Online offers an experience comparable to Forza Horizon 5, focusing on track-based drifting rather than the open-world offering of FH5.

Many fans argue that CarX provides a more authentic drifting experience of the two. Its impressive physics engine balances realism and accessibility, which also makes it more convenient and often more enjoyable to jump in and shred tires than hardcore drifting simulators.

Recent developments have revealed exciting new details about CarX Drift Racing 3. The team promises to build on its predecessors’ success with improved graphics, enhanced physics, and many incredible new features.

As CarX Technologies continues to push the boundaries of drifting games, here’s what’s (hopefully) coming soon. It’ll certainly be worth waiting for if they deliver on their promises! Here’s everything we know about CarX Drift Racing 3 so far.

Release Date & Platforms

CarX Drift Racing 3 will be released on iOS and Android devices on December 5, 2024.

The announcement on November 22, 2024 maintains CarX Tech’s tradition of short-notice reveals, mirroring their approach with CarX Street. Not that we’re complaining!

Along with the release date announcement, the team also delivered this stunning gameplay teaser, showcasing the game’s visuals and physics in action:

Although mobile versions are coming shortly, the game’s console and PC release dates are yet to be confirmed. However, it brings optimism that they’ll soon begin shifting towards these following the mobile releases.

The CarX Tech team initially announced CarX Drift Racing 3 in October 2023. Since then, they teased the fans with slow trickles of new updates, keeping the drifting community on the edge of their seats.

Platforms

When CarX Drift Racing 3 arrives, the team confirmed it will be released on multiple platforms:

  • Mobile (iOS and Android) – Confirmed, arriving December 5, 2024.
  • PC – Confirmed, expected to follow shortly after mobile
  • Consoles – Confirmed, expected to be the last to receive the game

CarX Drift Racing 3 will again be free to download and play on mobile devices. Pricing for PC and console versions is yet to be announced.

Mods, Upgrades & Tuning

CarX Drift Racing Online is already renowned for its simple yet in-depth tuning system, but CarX 3 is set to take customization to a whole new level. The developers have significantly reworked and expanded the tuning system, making it more comprehensive than ever before.

This video shows you what you can expect to see within the tuning menus. Note: We recommend turning the sound off for the video. You’ll soon see why!

One of the most exciting new features is the ability to change out individual components, compared to the previous “all-at-once” approach. Based on the previews, this extends to just about every aspect of the car:

  • Body Panels – Swap out specific parts, such as individual fenders, roof, and trunk
  • Interior – In-depth restructuring, including the option to manually remove rear seats and upgrade front seats
  • Bash Bars – Customize specific parts of front, side, and rear bash bars
  • Mirrors – Replace individual mirrors, allowing for different styles or mirrors on just one side

Weight reduction enthusiasts will be pleased to hear that you can experiment by running your car with body parts removed. This feature may also tie into the game’s damage system, which we’ll discuss shortly, potentially allowing you to eliminate repair costs for body and paint damage during practice.

The paint booth also gets a significant upgrade with plenty of new features:

  • Color Sliders – Access every color imaginable
  • Individual Part Painting – Repaint specific components like bash bars or individual body panels
  • Chassis Customization – Paint the chassis a different color from the body

The customization improvements also extend to the visual aspects, with significantly enhanced 3D models of cars and individual parts. The developers have even utilized laser scanning technology to create highly accurate engine models based on real prototypes.

Based on what we’ve seen from these early teasers, CarX Drift Racing 3 is expected to offer one of the most comprehensive and detailed vehicle customization systems in any racing (especially drifting) game to date, allowing the creation of truly unique vehicles.

Revolutionary Damage System

CarX Drift Racing 3 is set to introduce a groundbreaking realistic car damage feature to the series, offering a level of detail and realism previously unseen in the drift game scene.

They dropped this car damage demo, which got fans excited about what’s to come:

Before taking things up a notch for the second demo:

As you can see, the damage model looks insanely detailed and satisfying. Unlike many racing games where damage is often superficial or non-existent due to licensing restrictions, CarX Technologies is free to push the boundaries of realism due to the use of fictional recreations rather than licensed real-world cars.

lexus is300 altezza carx drift racing 3 release date

From what we’ve seen, the damage system reminds us of physics-based games like BeamNG.drive or Wreckfest, known for their hyper-realistic vehicle deformation. In CarX Drift Racing 3, we can expect destroyed (and hopefully exploding fiberglass) body panels and progressive damage that worsens with repeated impacts. The damage will also likely affect vehicle performance, adding depth to single-player and multiplayer modes.

tandem battle wall run nissan silvia ps13 ebisu damage carx drift racing 3 release date

We’re most excited to see how this plays out in tandem battles, where the intensity will likely increase. It’d be great if a slight miscalculation could result in visible and performance-altering damage, maybe even providing the option of going to extremes with the ability to total your car. This could also mean players would need to balance aggressive driving with the potential cost of repairs. If this is the case, you’d need to manage your finances to keep the showroom-fresh vibes or bear the battle scars. We’re just hoping, at this point, though, and this isn’t confirmed.

extreme damage red bmw carx drift racing 3 release date

While the damage system looks incredibly promising, such detailed destruction has previously caused controversy in the gaming industry. Developers faced potential lawsuits from car manufacturers concerned about the portrayal of their vehicles. However, with CarX using fictional cars, we hope this gives them the necessary creative freedom in this area, as it’ll be a huge victory for the fans.

Gameplay Engine Improvements

With a significant physics engine overhaul, CarX Drift Racing 3 is set to deliver a leap forward in gameplay mechanics and visuals, providing more realistic car behavior with improved weight transfer, tire grip simulation, and suspension dynamics.

Road 3.0 Feature

“Road 3.0” provides a significant advancement in replicating real-world surfaces. It uses an insane level of detail and takes into account minor bumps and deviations that will affect vehicle handling and grip levels.

Players can also expect to encounter varying levels of road deterioration, such as a blend of old and new asphalt patches on the previously repaired rural mountain roads, adding even more unpredictability and realism.

Combined with the new weather features we’ll discuss shortly, this could make the game more challenging and exciting than ever.

Audio Enhancements

The development team is also working hard to update the game’s audio, including improved engine sounds. Details are currently limited, but they’ve promised to provide more information soon.

Fresh Game Modes

CarX Drift Racing 3 will offer the biggest selection of game modes of any CarX game to date. Here’s what we’ve seen so far.

Single-Player Campaigns

The game features five distinct campaigns dedicated to a specific drifting era, providing variety while educating gamers on the history of drifting.

old school 1980s time attack touge carx drift racing 3 release date

1980s: Time Attack Campaign

This focuses on learning basic car handling and touge runs, mirroring the real-life practices of the era. Drift is not a requirement at this point, as the races are more like classic touge runs you’d expect to see on a Hot Version DVD than typical modern tandem drifts. Players will experience time attack challenges in the style of legendary driver Keiichi Tsuchiya, offering a taste of drift culture’s early days.

1990s: Time Attack & Drift Campaign

The 90s campaign represents the transition period from touge runs to more specialized drifting, teaching drifting fundamentals with mixed challenges focusing on both speed and drift techniques, reflecting the evolution of the sport during this decade.

2000s: Early Drift Campaign

As you enter the 00s campaign, you’ll encounter more specialized drift challenges. This era marks a significant shift towards drifting as a distinct motorsport discipline, with the recognizable Team Orange vibes.

2010s: Advanced Drifting Campaign

This will further advance your drift techniques, reflecting the rapid evolution in the modern era and providing increasingly complex challenges to test your mastery of advanced drifting skills.

Top 32 Championships

This multiplayer mode allows players to compete against AI-controlled “ghosts” of other players. Implementing AI solves several issues in previous games, such as waiting times and unsportsmanlike behavior, which was a common problem.

It also introduces skill-based matchmaking and individual objectives, ensuring that every race is unique and challenging.

Enhanced XDS Judging System

The XDS (judging system) has been completely reworked to align with real-world drift competition criteria. Runs are judged based on trajectory, angle, and style. For tandem runs, the system also considers the distance of the chase run and how well the chaser follows the leader.

Fan System

fans game mode carx drift racing 3 release date

Players accumulate fans as they progress through the game. The number of fans determines access to certain game locations and influences the quantity and quality of sponsorship opportunities.

Unlike previous games, fan count doesn’t directly affect race rewards, but reaching certain fan milestones provides instant rewards such as currency, cars, engines, or access to new locations and mechanics.

Contracts

contracts game mode carx drift racing 3 release date

Players receive rewards for completing contracts, with specific terms defined by skill level, sponsor relations, and fan count.

These contracts can include requirements like using specific cars, racing on particular tracks, or setting new records. Like in the real world, failure to meet contract terms can damage your reputation, affecting future offers.

Car Market

toyota chaser jzx100 bmw 3 series ford mustang carx drift racing 3 release date

The game introduces an innovative Car Market feature in the series. As seen in other games, this allows you to buy and sell cars, potentially allowing you to get your hands on some unique builds at a bargain price, which can be super useful for those just getting started.

Buying & Selling Cars

more cars confirmed carx drift racing 3 release date

Auto dealers will set a base price for each vehicle based on its overall condition, including mileage, wear and tear, and any modifications or tuning setups applied.

When selling a car, players can adjust the asking price. However, the pricing decision will impact how quickly the deal is closed. Setting a price too high might result in a longer wait for a buyer, while a more competitive price could lead to a quicker sale.

Custom Search Filters

Car Market includes custom search filters allowing you to narrow your search based on specific criteria to find the most ideal offers.

Used Car Parts

The team confirmed they’re considering expanding the market to include separate parts, but nothing definitive has been announced yet.

Tire Improvements

new tire wear models carx drift racing 3 release date

Visual & Wear Mechanics

There’s now a completely redesigned, realistic wear system. As you’d see in the real world, new tires have a sticker that wears off after the first few meters of use. Over time, the tires become increasingly worn, eventually exposing the cords and providing next to no grip. We’re also hoping it’ll lead to total blowouts!

Tire Replacement System

The tire auto-replacement mechanic is retained from the previous game but refined. In competitive modes like Top 32 battles, tire changes are only available before the first race, mirroring real-life drift competitions. In non-competitive modes, automatic tire changes occur during races based on a player-set percentage.

Customization Options

You’ll now have the flexibility to install different tires on different wheel axles, allowing for more nuanced vehicle setups. Additionally, basic tires are always available in unlimited quantities, ensuring players are never left without options.

Dynamic Time & Weather

In a move reminiscent of Assetto Corsa EVO’s plans, CarX Drift Racing 3 is set to introduce dynamic time and weather for the first time.

While details are still scarce, fans hope the game will include a variety of weather conditions, including snow. The possibility of snow tires and icy tracks has sparked excitement among the community, with many dreaming of recreating scenarios from Drift Hunters MAX or the real-world “Gatebil on Ice” events.

This feature has the potential to keep the game fresh and challenging, no matter how many times you’ve drifted a particular track. It requires you to adapt your drifting techniques to the changing conditions throughout a race or event.

Car List

confirmed cars list additional cars carx drift racing 3 release date
CarX Drift Racing 3 will launch with 30 cars, and there are plans to add more after release. Each vehicle will look, sound, and feel brand new.

You’ll now be able to own multiple copies of the same car model in your garage, allowing you to create builds tailored to specific tasks or events.

There are expected to be several new additions that aren’t featured in the current game, including the Nissan 400Z.

During one of their many Q&A sessions, the CarX Tech team confirmed no plans to include SUVs, trucks, or off-road vehicles.

Tracks & Locations

japanese touge kami road carx drift racing 3 release date

It’s no secret that CarX focuses on delivering a track-based experience rather than an open-world environment. However, CarX 3 introduces an in-depth track creator feature, allowing you to design custom circuits for the first time in the series.

Currently, the game features several confirmed locations, all looking more stunning and in-depth than ever.

Ebisu Complex, Japan

This iconic drifting venue is best known for the legendary Minami circuit called the “Drift Stadium” in the game. As in the real world, the Complex offers multiple layouts and lesser-known circuits for drift fans to enjoy.

Kami Road, Japan

A reimagined version of a legendary CarX location, Kami Road once again brings the touge mountain roads of Japan while significantly expanding its size and detail. New points of interest include a radio station, an abandoned gas station, a toll booth, and a Japanese village at the mountain’s base. It’s also filled with traditional details like cherry blossom trees, Japanese road signs, and views of pagodas.

Nürburgring, Germany

The world-famous track known for hosting the real-world “Nürburgring Drift Cup” brings a taste of European motorsport, offering a variety of challenging sections perfect for high-speed and technical drifting.

Dominion Raceway, USA

Although it’s one of the lesser-known US tracks for drifting, it has welcomed drifting in the past with the likes of “US Drift Shootout” events.

ADM Raceway, Russia

Located near Moscow, ADM Raceway regularly hosts RDS GP drift competitions, and it’s been recreated with high attention to detail. Since the CarX team is based in Russia, they were able to use extensive photo and video data, laser scans, and personal visits to ensure accuracy.

With all these incredible improvements and new features, alongside what we’re sure will be plenty more announcements yet to come, it should be easy to see why we feel CarX Drift Racing 3 is shaping up to be a drift enthusiast’s dream. We cannot wait to get our hands on the PC and console versions!

Experiencing problems after the latest Drift Hunters MAX update? This troubleshooting guide covers all common issues and solutions.

We’re delighted to announce the recently released significant update to the latest version of the Drifted exclusive Drift Hunters MAX game on 11/18/24.

With the update came many brand-new, highly requested features, such as:

  • Open-world free-roam with AI traffic
  • Mobile compatibility
  • Cross-platform progress syncing
  • Free Drift Attack mode for all users
  • Improved loading times

If you’ve been experiencing any issues since the release, we’re hoping that the following questions will resolve any problems that may arise after the initial rollout of the update.

Drift Hunters MAX won’t load

In this case, you need to delete your browser cookies for drifted.com. To do this, you can follow the video or the written step-by-step process below.

Blank screen after trying to log in

This is a known issue that has now been patched. Refresh your browser page to restore normal functionality. If the problem continues, try logging out completely and logging back in.

Is your phone getting hot when playing?

With the latest update, Drift Hunters MAX is now playable on most modern mobiles, PCs, tablets, and Chromebooks.

All Unity games that can be played within the browser on your phone are currently experimental, and on older or lower-spec devices, the resources required to play the game may be too much for it to handle.

If this is the case, it might cause your device to get hot. If so, we recommend closing the game immediately and trying to play Drift Hunters MAX on a newer device with capable hardware.

For example, a fan tested the game with the following specs, which weren’t capable of producing the best results:

  • Samsung Galaxy M20
  • Chipset – Exynos 7904 (14 nm)
  • CPU – Octa-core (2×1.8 GHz Cortex-A73 & 6×1.6 GHz Cortex-A53)
  • GPU – Mali-G71 MP2
  • RAM – 4GB

For this reason, we recommend having a device with better specs than those above.

Is Drift Hunters MAX lagging on your device?

There are two likely causes for this:

  • Your device may not meet the minimum spec requirements for the game. However, you can try lowering the graphics to see if that helps:
    • Click “OPTIONS” on the main menu
    • Under “GRAPHICS”, try “MEDIUM”
    • If the game still lags, try “LOW”

This may be because you have too many other windows/applications open in the background on your device.

In this case, we advise closing all unnecessary apps/windows and trying again. If that doesn’t improve things, please try restarting your device.

Page freezing when loading the new update

The first time you load the new update, your browser will download the game files, which may take a little time to complete, depending on your connection speed. We strongly recommend using a stable WiFi connection for the initial download.

Once loaded for the first time, you’ll experience near-instant loading thanks to our latest optimization improvements.

Why are there in-game button overlays on mobile menus?

Our development team is actively working on fixing this UI issue.

For now, please use precise touch inputs on the highlighted areas to navigate the buttons behind the overlay. We’ve confirmed this workaround allows access to all game functions.

Why are the VIP cars not unlocked?

Players who claimed Drifted VIP accounts on the previous Drift Hunters MAX version will have these vehicles automatically unlocked in their garage.

yaris unlocked

New Drifted VIP members must purchase these vehicles using in-game currency, though this may be revised in future updates.

If your issue isn’t listed above

Please contact us through our website’s Contact Form or join the Drifted Discord server for prompt assistance.

When reporting issues, please include your device specifications and a detailed description of the problem for faster resolution.

Gaming Factory announces JDM: Japanese Drift Master will not make its planned 2024 release, pushing the launch window to Spring 2025, but it’s not all bad news.

TL;DR

  • JDM: Japanese Drift Master delayed to Spring 2025 for additional refinements
  • A new trailer reveals fresh location, Ichikara, a Tokyo-inspired district featuring neon-lit streets and skyscrapers
  • The final game will feature over 250km of roads across the Guntama prefecture
  • Story mode includes 40+ missions and “dozens” of side quests
  • Licensed cars from Mazda, Nissan, and Subaru will come with detailed customization and tuning
  • Multiple race types beyond drifting: Circuit racing, time trials, and drag racing
  • Free prologue (JDM: Rise of the Scorpion) available to play on Steam

The delay comes with a recent X (Twitter) update, where the JDM development team shared their commitment to quality, stating, “This extra time will allow us to deliver the highest quality experience.”

The Polish studio also explained that they “dove deep into polishing the details and improving the overall quality of the game, so you can get the best possible experience on day one.” Test Drive Unlimted: Solar Crown could learn a thing or two from these guys!

While it might not be the news fans were hoping for, it’s refreshing to see the dev team continue communicating with its community and showing real progress while they’re at it. After all, this is the same team that previously analyzed 2,000 player feedback surveys from their demo and made actual improvements based on community input.

Fresh Trailer Shows Off New Location

The delay announcement comes alongside plenty of positive news, as Gaming Factory dropped a new trailer showcasing “Ichikara,” their virtual take on Tokyo’s modern districts.

The neon-lit metropolis appears to be a drift enthusiast’s playground, complete with wide expressways and towering skyscrapers, joining the previously-announced Haikama Lake touge mountain roads.

The trailer showcases Mazda’s officially licensed vehicles, starting with a subtly modified RX-7 FD3S cruising down the highway, overtaking various vehicles, including lorries and kei trucks.

Things heat up when a VeilSide Fortune-kitted RX-7 FD appears, performing donuts in the city streets.

It then transitions to a Rocket Bunny widebody FD with Mount Fuji looming in the background.

It then meets up and cruises alongside a slammed, camber-heavy, top-down Miata, which treats us to some playful pop-up headlight action, showing off the game’s attention to detail.

While the new footage looks good and adds to the suspense, it’s noteworthy that it’s purely cinematic (with a distinct lack of Eurobeat!), leaving fans waiting to see more actual gameplay.

Latest Dev Announcement Reveals Further Details

The delay announcement came packaged with substantial new information about JDM’s features and content. Here’s what we learned:

The World of Guntama Expands

Gaming Factory lifted the lid on their fictional Japanese prefecture, Guntama.

At its heart lies the newly announced Ichikara, which draws inspiration from Tokyo’s modern districts. However, it’s now revealed that it’s just one part of a much larger picture. The team announced that the full game world spans over 250km of roads, weaving through mountain passes, rural backroads, and city streets.

In-Game Story Mode & Missions

Players step into the role of a foreign driver aiming to build their reputation on Japanese streets. The manga-filled campaign features over 40 story-driven missions, complemented by “dozens” of side quests.

Cars & Tuning

The game’s JDM car roster includes officially licensed models from Nissan, Subaru, and Mazda. Each car has been laser-scanned and features authentic engine sounds recorded from their real-world counterparts.

The tuning system promises extensive customization options, from performance parts to visual mods, complete body kits, and advanced suspension tweaking, as we see above.

More Than Just Drifting

For those of you who sometimes venture beyond the drift events, you have the chance to participate in circuit racing, time trials, head-to-head battles, and even drag racing. Each event type comes with its own unique challenges and gameplay mechanics.

While We Wait For JDM’s 2025 Release

Don’t forget, JDM: Rise of the Scorpion remains free to play on Steam. The prologue offers a solid taste of what’s to come, featuring a slice of the story mode and several licensed vehicles, including the Mazda Miata (MX5) we’ve seen in today’s trailer.

The development team continues actively engaging with the community through their Discord server, gathering feedback and sharing development updates. Given their track record of implementing player suggestions, it might be worth joining the discussion if you want to help shape the final product.

While his YouTube channel mostly focuses on GTA 5, with a great selection of drifting content, Hazardous decided to check out something a little different at the request of his 1.7 million subscribers. They asked him to explore some of their recommended free online drifting games to see how they stack up against what he’s used to playing.

From basic entry-level drift games to surprisingly impressive browser-based simulators featuring in-depth tuning, challenges, and leaderboards, these games show how far free online browser-based drifting games have come.

You can check out the menu above to see all the games in this list or click play on the first video below to check out Hazardous’ thoughts on each browser game. Meanwhile, we’ll visit each game individually in the same order he discusses them (if they’re still available) and explain how to check them out yourself. They’re all completely free, of course!

Burnout Drift

Hazardous Rating: 7/10

Play Burnout Drift for free

This browser-based drifting game impressed Hazardous with its smooth mechanics and responsive controls. He rightly points out, “I remember when I was a kid, browser games were so bad. We used to play Flash games, they were not as good as this!”

One thing that stands out to him about Burnout Drift is the impressive car selection, featuring everything from basic drift cars and pickups to supercars like the Bugatti Veyron. He loves the camera movement and mentions that “this one is actually better than some of the games that I paid for on Steam a while back.” Praise, indeed!

Extreme Drift

Hazardous Rating: 5/10

Once again, the car list impresses, and with his limited funds, Hazardous has to opt for the drifting legend and Keiichi Tsuchiya’s weapon of choice, the Toyota AE86 Sprinter Trueno.

Hazardous quickly points out that although the drifting mechanics feel somewhat similar, it doesn’t feel as easy to play right away as Burnout Drift.

He quickly notices that, just like in reality, the stock AE86 certainly isn’t the most powerful car in stock form, and his lack of in-game currency means he can’t upgrade the car quickly to achieve the game’s true potential.

Admittedly, keeping the tires spinning in the AE86 can be challenging. We found that maintaining a higher speed and going for less angle helps, and you can quickly earn to upgrade to more powerful cars. If you have some spare time, we still feel that Extreme Drift is well worth checking out.

You can also try the latest game in the series, Extreme Drift 2, which wasn’t featured in the video. The update brings a huge car roster with some truly unique cars (even trucks and buggies), more game modes, day and night, weather changes, and much more.

Ado Cars Drifter

Hazardous Rating: 6/10

Play Ado Cars Drifter for free

Ado Cars Drifter attempts to combine arcade-style drifting with more realistic physics, which Hazardous discovers can be both a blessing and a curse.

Mastering the drift mechanics requires a little more practice than you might expect from a browser game. “It’s kind of hard to hold the drift, not gonna lie,” Hazardous mentions while throwing down a reverse entry and wrestling with the handling.

We found that being a little more chilled with the throttle and not throwing down huge angles provides better results – mashing the gas pedal typically ends in a spin. Give it a try and see if you can master it.

Since the video, the developers have launched Ado Cars Drifter 2 with improved physics, making it easier to handle. It’s also had an overhaul with improved graphics, more tracks, and a broader vehicle selection. These upgrades make it well worth checking out.

Drift Boss

Hazardous Rating: 6/10

Play Drift Boss for free

If you blink on the video, you’ll miss it, and it’s not featured on YouTube’s “Key moments” highlights either. But, around the 5:35 mark, Hazardous checks out the simple yet hugely popular game “Drift Boss.”

After initially struggling to grasp the controls, he gets the hang of the hold-to-drift mechanics, which immediately sets it apart from the more complex games he’s been testing. “This feels like a game that you play on your way home from school on the bus,” he jokes while getting to grips with the automatic drifting system.

He’s quite right with his verdict. That’s the appeal of Drift Boss – its basic design, simple controls, and quick-play format make it perfect for playing on mobile to get a quick drifting fix while killing time during short breaks.

Burnout Drift 3: Seaport Max

Hazardous Rating: 7/10

Play Burnout Drift 3: Seaport Max for free

For the third game in the series, Burnout Drift 3: Seaport Max takes a fresh approach with its dockside setting. The graphics immediately catch Hazardous’ attention: “Yo this actually looks really good for being a browser game dude, that is insane!”

However, he points out that the change in environment also brings changes to the handling characteristics compared to the original. “This one didn’t feel as nice as the first one, not gonna lie. I feel like they downgraded from the first one,” he notes while navigating through the containers.

Although it’s different, it’s worth noting the game’s newer features that weren’t mentioned. For instance, it now includes car damage, day/night cycles, and even multiplayer support for drifting with friends.

The handling might feel tamer compared to the all-out reverse entries that are easily achieved in the original. However, mastering the prominent weight transfer mechanics, especially with the soft stock suspension setup, adds a new challenge to master.

He also shows that similar to games like Madalin Stunt Cars 3, you can pull off various stunts between the containers. Combined with the expanded muscle car selection and the addition of the GT-R, the game has plenty of variety.

Like its predecessor, Burnout Drift 3 Seaport earns a solid 7/10 rating. While the handling takes some getting used to, the improved graphics, unique setting, and additional features arguably make it a worthy evolution.

Drift Hunters

Hazardous Rating: 7/10

Play Drift Hunters for free

Let’s face it – Drift Hunters needs no introduction here at Drifted! It’s one of the most popular browser-based drifting games, and for good reason.

Unlike many other browser games, it offers proper tuning options, including camber adjustment and brake balance settings. “The problem was when I tried this game before, I didn’t really pick up any speed,” Hazardous explains. After adjusting the setup and giving it a better chance, he starts to discover the game’s true potential.

While the controls take some getting used to when maintaining longer drifts, it’s highly rewarding once you get the hang of the physics engine. “Once you get into a good drift and can actually hold it, it actually feels kind of solid,” he notes while stringing together a combo.

Although the game takes some time for beginners to get used to, it’s part of the challenge that makes it so enjoyable. On top of that, the depth of customization and satisfying drift mechanics make it one of the more enjoyable browser-based drifting games, earning another solid 7/10 from the YouTuber.

Lamborghini Drifter

Hazardous Rating: 7/10

Play Lamborghini Drifter for free

As the final game in this video (and another that doesn’t feature in the video “Key moments”), Hazardous gets behind the wheel in Lamborghini Drifter.

Right away, the game stands out with its unique sound effects – particularly the loud backfires from the exhaust. “This is the first game of the day where you can just kind of glide a lot,” he notes while stringing together some impressive combos. This easy-going feature makes Lambo Drifter simple and fun to play.

The game rewards high-speed entries, and with his new whip, a matte black Lamborghini, he states, “It’s so hard to go through the whole corner. I have to go so fast.” However, he soon realizes that turning down the angle helps maintain the drift much easier. Its emphasis on long, sweeping drifts sets Lambo Drifter apart from other browser games’ more technical approaches.

Once you get the hang of it, the drift mechanics are satisfying, earning Lamborghini Drifter another 7/10 rating. While it might not offer the best graphics or customization, the focus on pure drifting entertainment impresses. Also, you can quickly unlock the selection of Lambos in the garage once you’ve got the hang of it.

If you enjoy the game, check out the latest game in the series, Lambo Drifter 3, which brings a selection of new tracks alongside improved graphics and physics.

On the most liked comment of the video, a Hazardous fan posted the following:

With this, there was only one thing for it… Another video!

Drift Hunters MAX

Rating: Hazardous APPROVED!

Play Drift Hunters MAX for free

After numerous fan requests, Hazardous heads to Drifted to check out our exclusive Drift Hunters MAX game.

Right away, he notices significant improvements over previous versions. “This definitely feels a lot better than the previous Drift Hunters games that I played,” he notes, praising the graphics, physics, and smooth framerates.

Starting with the game’s free, stock-powered AE86, the legendary Touge map proves the perfect testing ground for the AE86’s drift capabilities as he begins pulling off big angles and racking up combos. “For sure the best browser drift game I’ve played,” Hazardous states, as he enjoys the twisty mountain roads.

After a montage of him getting to grips with the car, during which he clocks up over 100k, he explores the game’s features. Unlike other simpler browser games, Drift Hunters MAX offers in-depth customization and tuning. After carrying out some upgrades, he gets back to shredding tires once again on a different map.

Hazardous finishes by saying he’s “surprised how good this game felt for being a browser game” and giving it his approval. Unfortunately, he doesn’t give a rating, but besides stating it’s a little slow to earn cash, he has nothing but praise.

Since this video, we’ve released a newer version, which includes “Drift Attack,” where players get to show off their skills in unique challenges and sectors, complete with drift zones and clipping points. There’s also an online leaderboard where you can compete with other Drift Hunters MAX fans worldwide and many incredible new tracks and cars, including the awesome Toyota GR Yaris (complete with retro HKS vibes) above!

Drift Hunters MAX truly takes free browser drifting games to a whole new level, so check out what it offers and be prepared to be equally impressed as Hazardous!

Crazy Drift

Rating: Hazardous APPROVED!

Play Crazy Drift for free

Crazy Drift is another great game with an awesome car and track list that offers three distinct environments – a racetrack, a selection of playgrounds, and a stunt track filled with loops and jumps.

“This ain’t too bad, actually. The handling feels quite smooth,” says Hazardous, although he does mention that it “doesn’t match Drift Hunters MAX’s polish or level of detail.” However, Crazy Drift has two impressive features rarely seen in browser games – multiplayer support and vehicle damage.

The game’s monetization also feels more generous than others, with free cosmetic upgrades including paint and rims. After purchasing the Porsche, Hazardous discovers the stunt track’s potential, pulling off impressive barrel rolls and landing straight into drifts at nearly 200 mph.

Alongside the ability to play with friends online in multiplayer mode, Crazy Drift apart is its ability to combine drifting with stunting. The scoring system rewards both technical drifting and aerial maneuvers, with Hazardous racking up nearly 900,000 points in a single run.

Needless to say, Crazy Drift once again gets a well-deserved Hazardous seal of approval!

Introduction

As fans eagerly awaited Assetto Corsa 2, Kunos Simulazioni pulled a Scandinavian flick on the sim racing community by unveiling Assetto Corsa EVO as the latest entry in their acclaimed simulation series. This new title builds upon the foundation laid by the original Assetto Corsa in 2014 and promises to take sim racing to a whole new level.

Significant developments have marked the evolution from Assetto Corsa to EVO. While Assetto Corsa Competizione, the series’ GT-focused offshoot, catered to a specific niche, EVO returns to the diverse vehicle roster that made the original a favorite among circuit racers and drift enthusiasts.

Unbeknownst to fans, a small team at Kunos has been quietly developing EVO since 2019. This work was happening alongside the preparation of Assetto Corsa Competizione’s release. As a result, EVO has already been in development for about five years.

Kunos’s approach to revealing EVO was creative. To build anticipation, it utilized hidden QR codes at the virtual Nürburgring. This was followed by an official (somewhat underwhelming) teaser on YouTube and the release of 28 stunning screenshots on Steam, showcasing the game’s next-level visuals.

This new addition to the series promises advancements in physics simulation and gameplay options beyond fan expectations, suggesting a significant leap forward for the franchise. Whether players are chasing lap records or perfecting their opposite lock, Assetto Corsa EVO is designed to offer a comprehensive driving experience that caters to various motorsport disciplines.

Release Date

Assetto Corsa EVO is set to debut on January 16, 2025, initially launching as early access exclusively for PC via Steam.

The PC-first approach will be familiar to hardcore fans. The strategy has served the series well in the past, allowing for community modding support and fine-tuning of the simulation before bringing it to a wider audience.

Assetto Corsa EVO Playstation/Xbox Release Date

Patience will be key for console gamers eager to experience Assetto Corsa EVO. The game follows a release strategy similar to previous titles in the series, with an initial launch on PC before eventually making its way to consoles. This approach allows Kunos Simulazioni to refine the game on PC first, allowing them to update and patch it as needed.

Digital Bros, the parent company of 505 Games (which publishes Assetto Corsa), mentioned a “long-term” plan for console ports. This suggests that console versions are definitely in the pipeline but not an immediate priority, with “long-term” implying that it could be a significant wait before we see Assetto Corsa EVO on PlayStation or Xbox platforms.

Considering that nearly 40% of Assetto Corsa’s sales were on consoles, despite the lack of modding capabilities, it’s a safe bet that EVO will eventually make the jump. When it finally arrives on PlayStation and Xbox, it’ll go head-to-head with Gran Turismo 7 and Forza Motorsport.

While Kunos might not match the car count or track list of Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport, their reputation for best-in-class driving physics could give them the edge. This is especially true for drift enthusiasts, as both GT7 and FM have struggled to capture the sideways action as well as we’d like. With Assetto Corsa’s history of delivering a stellar drifting experience, we hope to see EVO fill the wide-open gap that its big-budget competitors have left.

Assetto Corsa EVO Game Features

Kunos has been selective in revealing in-depth details, but the information shared gives us a good idea of what to expect. While many features are still under wraps, which we’ll announce when we can, they’ve highlighted several key aspects that suggest a significant leap forward for the franchise. Here are the confirmed main features for Assetto Corsa EVO so far:

Graphics & Game Engine

Opting away from Unreal Engine 5, Assetto Corsa EVO runs on an all-new proprietary game engine developed by Kunos Simulazioni, promising photorealistic visuals. Initial images showcase remarkable attention to detail, from intricate car textures to highly realistic environments. The LIDAR-scanned tracks offer enhanced tarmac detail and realistic grip levels.

From the intricate stitching on the seats to the subtle nuances in paint flake pop and tire wear, every aspect of the cars appears to be crafted with precision. We’ve all been burned before by flashy pre-release shots, so it’s worth taking these early images with a pinch of salt.

paint flake pop assetto corsa evo

While early images are certainly impressive, the true test will be how these visuals perform in actual gameplay footage. Also, sim racing enthusiasts will be well aware that physics are paramount in any simulator, with graphics often taking a back seat to the likes of realistic handling and physics.

Physics

EVO aims to redefine sim standards as we know them with advanced systems that replicate mechanical, electronic, and aerodynamic performance of vehicles. The new engine promises even more lifelike physics compared to its predecessors.

These features collectively suggest that Assetto Corsa EVO is a significant leap forward in racing simulation, balancing insane visuals with deep, realistic gameplay mechanics.

Weather & Time Simulation

EVO introduces dynamic weather conditions and a full day-night cycle, features absent in the original Assetto Corsa (well, without mods, at least!) On the Steam page, Kunos states: “the new mathematical model meticulously simulates asphalt performance in different dynamic weather conditions that guarantees an authentic and realistic experience which will redefine the standards.”

This promises an authentic experience whether you’re racing on a sun-baked track or navigating a treacherous rainy night. Drivers will need to adapt their strategies based on changing environmental factors, and we hope to see the cold, wet-weather drifting aspects of the game bring a whole new challenge.

VR & Triple Screen Support

Kunos confirms on the Assetto Corsa EVO Steam listing that it will support VR and triple-screen setups from launch, and the VR support is likely to be a significant improvement over its predecessor.

While the original Assetto Corsa excelled in VR implementation, Assetto Corsa Competizione faced challenges due to its use of Unreal Engine. EVO, however, is set to run on a proprietary engine specifically designed for the game. To the delight of many VR sim racers, this dedicated engine should allow for better optimization of VR performance, offering a more immersive and smoother virtual reality racing experience.

AI & Career Mode

While details are limited, fans will be delighted to hear there are hints of significant improvements to AI. In an interview, Kunos’ founder mentioned enhanced AI and teased “something bigger than a career” mode, raising expectations for a more comprehensive single-player experience.

Assetto Corsa EVO Cars

EVO is set to deliver a diverse lineup of vehicles spanning automotive history. The roster will cater to everyone, from everyday road cars to exotic hypercars, classic beauties, cutting-edge prototypes, and purpose-built racing machines.

While the full car list is yet to be revealed, the teasers we’ve seen so far confirm that the following cars will be in the game:

  • Alfa Romeo
    • Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm
    • Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GTA
  • Alpine
    • Alpine A110 S
    • Alpine A290_β (electric hot hatch concept)
  • BMW
    • BMW M4 CSL
  • Ferrari
    • Ferrari 296 GTB
    • Ferrari Daytona SP3
    • Ferrari F40 Competizione
  • Ford
    • Ford Fiesta ST (MK8.5)
  • Honda
    • Honda S2000 (Shown in the game menu teasers only)
  • Hyundai
    • Hyundai ELANTRA N TCR
    • Hyundai i20N
    • Hyundai i30N
    • Hyundai IONIQ 5 N
    • Hyundai N Vision 74 concept
  • Lamborghini
    • Lamborghini Huracán STO
  • Lotus
    • Lotus Emira
  • McLaren
    • McLaren 765 LT
  • Mercedes
    • Mercedes-AMG GT (C192)
    • Mercedes-AMG GT2
    • Mercedes-AMG GT 63 V8 BiTurbo
    • Mercedes-Benz 190E Evolution II
    • Mercedes-Benz SL (R232)
  • Morgan
    • Morgan Super-3
  • Porsche
    • Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992)
    • Porsche 911 Turbo S (964)
  • Rover
    • Rover Mini Cooper
  • Volkswagen
    • Volkswagen Golf GTI (MK1)
    • Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport (MK8)

For those who enjoy a bit of sideways action, a few are already potentially well-suited for drifting if you’ve got the skills to match. The futuristic N Vision 74 concept EV should be a blast to slide around, and the Mercedes 190E is a classic choice for a reason. As for the supercars like the Porsche 911s, Lamborghini Huracan, and Alpine A110, they’re all rear-wheel drive or have rear-biased systems that can be perfect for drifting.

Kunos will reveal more road and race cars from various manufacturers and racing categories as development progresses. While the confirmed list is currently focused on European marques, we’ll undoubtedly soon see some JDM legends appear shortly.

Assetto Corsa EVO Tracks

EVO is set to feature a selection of meticulously recreated tracks, scanned using LIDAR technology for perfect accuracy. This laser scanning process captures every aspect of the track surface, ensuring that virtual drivers experience the same realistic bumps, cambers, and grip levels as the real thing.

imola yellow curb assetto corsa evo

So far, Kunos Simulazioni has confirmed five iconic circuits for the game:

  • Bathurst (Mount Panorama Circuit) - Australia
  • Brands Hatch - UK
  • Fuji International Speedway - Japan
  • Imola (Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari) - Italy
  • Nürburgring Nordschleife - Germany

These tracks are fan favorites and will provide diverse driving challenges.

Fuji’s long straight allows drift cars to build insane speed before transitioning into its technical sections. Since 2003, Fuji has hosted D1 Grand Prix events, running in reverse direction to create better entry speeds through its dedicated drift section from 300R past the Coca-Cola corner. We hope to see Fuji’s drift course included, too, designed by the legendary “Drift King” Keiichi Tsuchiya.

Both the Nürburgring (Nürburgring Drift Cup) and Brands Hatch (MSUK Drift Pro Championship) host drifting competitions today, so they could already be the perfect platforms for in-game battles and competitions.

brands hatch uk rain assetto corsa evo

The LIDAR scanning technology and the game’s new weather system should make these tracks feel more alive than ever. We can’t wait to slide the Nordschleife’s ‘Green Hell’ rails in the pouring rain (without worrying about the fines that come with it) and burn rubber through Imola’s Acque Minerali.

While only these tracks have been confirmed so far, Kunos will undoubtedly add more circuits as development progresses, which we’ll include as they’re announced.

How Will It Compare To Assetto Corsa?

Early signs leave us optimistic that EVO will significantly leap forward from its predecessors. The visual improvements are particularly striking compared to the 2014 original. While the first Assetto Corsa was impressive for its time, its graphics weren’t mind-blowing.

EVO, however, seems to be pushing the envelope of photorealism in racing games, assuming these early shots represent actual in-game visuals. The meticulously detailed car models and lifelike environments showcase the past decade’s technological advancements. From the intricate textures on vehicle interiors to the lighting on track surfaces, it demonstrates how far racing sims have come since the original’s release.

You can see a side-by-side comparison here:

We’ve also seen massive strides in gaming technology in recent years, from more powerful hardware to advanced AI systems. EVO aims to capitalize on these, promising stunning visuals, more sophisticated physics simulations, and smarter AI opponents. Adding dynamic weather and a day-night cycle feature that is absent in the original demonstrates how EVO is leveraging modern tech to create a more immersive and challenging racing experience.

While Assetto Corsa Competizione focused solely on GT3 racing, EVO returns to a mixed car roster, offering everything from road cars to hypercars and purpose-built racers. This broader selection, combined with the enhanced graphics, physics, and new features like dynamic weather, positions EVO as a comprehensive package that should set a new standard. Of course, we’ll need to wait for hands-on gameplay to make a final judgment, but the early signs suggest that EVO could be a significant step forward for both the franchise and the sim racing genre as a whole.

Comparisons To Its Rivals

EVO’s main competitors on PC will likely be iRacing, rFactor 2, and Automobilista 2. These sims have strengths — iRacing for its online multiplayer, rFactor 2 for its physics, and Automobilista 2 for its impressively diverse content. To stand out, EVO will need to deliver on its promises of enhanced graphics, physics, and features.

Interestingly, EVO’s biggest rival might be its own predecessor. The original Assetto Corsa’s mod scene is incredible, and the sheer variety of content available is staggering. We’ll explore this further in our next section.

Assetto Corsa EVO won’t compete directly with Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation at launch since it’ll only be released on PC, with console versions expected to follow later. This gives GT7 some breathing room on PS5 for now, but it hasn’t stopped YouTubers already comparing the two:

Unlike GT7, EVO will face Forza Motorsport as competition from the start, given its inclusion in the PC sim racing market. Forza is known for its accessibility, polished graphics, and extensive car list, but Assetto Corsa caters more to hardcore sim enthusiasts with its focus on realistic physics and handling. It should leave FM in the dust if it’s as good as it looks and sounds.

Assetto Corsa EVO Mods

For Assetto Corsa EVO, mod support has been confirmed, though exact details remain unclear. It’s expected to continue the strong modding tradition of the original game, potentially with a more refined system. However, it’s a delicate balance for Kunos. While the original game thrived on user-created content, the studio must navigate the complexities of vehicle licensing. As such, they will likely announce mod support and let the community take it from there.

Right now, we have no idea how EVO will compare to the original in terms of customization. To entice players away from their modded setups, significant improvements in physics, graphics, and features will need to be offered while also ensuring strong mod support to build upon that foundation. If not, we wouldn’t be surprised to see some sim racers stick with the original.

The O.G. Assetto Corsa’s mod scene is a drift enthusiast’s paradise. You can find mods for just about every iconic car imaginable, from classic JDM street cars to top-tier D1GP and Formula Drift builds, and even some (often hilarious) unconventional choices. The track selection is equally diverse, offering everything from accurate touge mountain passes to purpose-built drift circuits like Ebisu Minami and fantasy tracks designed purely for drift trains.

This extensive modding ecosystem has kept the original AC the top pick among sim enthusiasts long after its initial release. It’s created a sandbox where players can craft their perfect drifting or racing experience, often for free.

Assetto Corsa EVO Technical Specifications

Assetto Corsa EVO’s system requirements have been revealed, and they suggest a significant step up from its predecessor. Here’s what you’ll need to get the most out of the game:

Assetto Corsa EVO’s car list already shows promise, but will the regulated modding fail to match the original game’s appeal for drifting fans?

When Assetto Corsa launched a decade ago, it transformed the sim-drifting genre. Now, Kunos Simulazioni aims to raise the bar even higher with Assetto Corsa EVO, the true successor that both drifting and racing fans are desperate to get their hands on.

Unlike the GT-focused Assetto Corsa Competizione, EVO is the “Assetto Corsa 2” that non-GT fans have been craving, returning to the series’ roots, which we know and love. The new title already promises to deliver everything from classic road cars to modern hypercars, along with plenty of tail-happy options thrown into the mix.

Often regarded as the ultimate drifting simulator, the original game delivered a comprehensive car list. However, the available third-party content truly sets it apart from the competition. PC players can modify the game and reap the benefits of the most vast mod community in sim racing, delivering almost every drift car imaginable.

As we explore the confirmed car list for EVO, it’s worth noting that the modding aspect might work differently this time around, which we’ll discuss later. For now, let’s dive into what Kunos has revealed so far.

Drift-Friendly Cars In Assetto Corsa EVO

While it’s admittedly not exactly a drifters’ dream car list so far, with the focus unsurprisingly on racing, drift enthusiasts can look forward to throwing several of these options sideways.

The BMW M4 CSL brings modern power and precision, while the Honda S2000 offers the perfect balance of lightweight agility and high-revving excitement that made it a drift favorite.

Hyundai’s futuristic cars should be a blast to drive. Thanks to their electric powertrains, they offer something unique that we’ve not yet experienced in the AC series, and we already got a taste of their sideways antics in the trailer.

Meanwhile, the tail-happy Mercedes-Benz 190E Evolution II remains a classic choice for a reason, combining its retro charm with excellent handling for its day.

As for the supercars, the Porsche 911 Turbo S (964), Lamborghini Huracán STO, and Alpine A110 S are all rear-wheel drive or have rear-biased systems that can be perfect for putting your skills to the test.

The Lotus Emira’s mid-engine layout and balanced chassis could also be fun, while the three-wheeled Morgan Super-3 promises to be hilariously entertaining.

Will Assetto Corsa EVO Allow Car Mods?

Don’t get too excited just yet. The above image is from the original game (which we hope EVO will eventually replicate!).

As you can see, drifting in the original Assetto Corsa game was transformed, thanks to the incredible modding community, making it the ultimate drifting simulator for fans and real-world drifters alike.

The possibilities are pretty much endless. If you want to drive at iconic Japanese drift tracks like Ebisu Minami, Meihan, or Nikko Circuit in recreations of legendary cars like Naoki Nakamura’s PS13 or Daigo Saito’s JZX100, the community’s got you covered. Even Forza Motorsport’s beloved (and neglected) Fujimi Kaido found new life through AC mods.

Here’s a taste of what the modded cars, tracks, and drift-specific VR enhancements can look like in AC with a capable setup:

The base game (especially with the Japanese Car Pack DLC) provided a solid foundation with drift-ready vehicles like the Toyota AE86, Mazda MX-5 (Miata), Mazda RX-7 Spirit R, Toyota Supra MKIV, and Nissan 370Z NISMO.

However, since the insanely in-depth modding scene truly made AC’s drifting experience special, fans are left wondering what’s in store for EVO.

Currently, EVO’s approach to modding presents some concerns for drift enthusiasts. While Kunos’ co-founder Marco Massarutto confirmed modding support will return after the early access period, there’s a catch.

The team plans to “create a platform where modders can work with cars and track licensors,” suggesting a more regulated approach. Since drifting isn’t the series’ main focus, this approach won’t be ideal.

This shift toward official licensing could significantly impact drift content. The current AC modding scene operates in a grey area, often “borrowing” content from other games. With stricter limitations in EVO, achieving the same level of drift-specific content seems unlikely.

If the restrictions prove too limiting, most drift enthusiasts will likely stick with the original Assetto Corsa, where they can enjoy the vast library of community-created content without limitations. The drift community’s response to EVO largely depends on how Kunos balances official licensing requirements with modding freedom.

While it’s great to know the mods of the original Assetto Corsa will always be there to fall back on, it’ll be a shame if drifting fans won’t get to experience the groundbreaking new benefits of Assetto Corsa EVO.

We explore Assetto Corsa EVO’s track selection, mod support, and free-roam mode. Will the latest game have what it takes to revolutionize virtual drifting?

Believe it or not, it’s now been over ten years since the launch of the original Asssetto Corsa game, which is still regarded as the ultimate drifting simulator by most die-hard fans who want to replicate the real-world tire shredding experience.

Earlier this year, Kunos Simulazioni dropped a huge announcement for drifting and racing fans worldwide by confirming the launch of a new game, Assetto Corsa EVO (essentially Assetto Corsa 2 – if we conveniently forget that ACC exists!), which followed shortly after with an official release date of January 16, 2025.

Understandably, the fans had many questions about the game, with one of the most popular being which tracks they’d be treated to on launch.

Assetto Corsa EVO Confirmed Track List

Here are the tracks confirmed for AC EVO so far. The dedicated enthusiasts among us will undoubtedly recognize a few of these from the screenshots:

  • Bathurst (Mount Panorama Circuit) – Australia
  • Brands Hatch – UK
  • Fuji International Speedway – Japan
  • Imola (Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari) – Italy
  • Nürburgring Nordschleife – Germany

As you’d expect, every minor bump and imperfection in these laser-scanned tracks will be perfectly recreated to match the real thing. Along with the newly improved graphics, physics, dynamic weather, and day/night cycles, each of them will undoubtedly provide the ultimate driving (or drifting!) simulator experience to date.

Although this tracklist seems somewhat lacking, it’s still very early days, with plenty of announcements to follow. However, let’s face it – the modding community completely transformed the original Assetto Corsa into the game we know and love today.

The fans’ dedication helped it stay at the forefront of drift simulators for the past decade. This was particularly revolutionary for drifting enthusiasts, who were left asking another crucial question…

Will Mod Support Continue In Assetto Corsa EVO?

If mods are severely restricted in Assetto Corsa EVO, then the limited in-game track selection becomes even more vital, and let’s be honest – drifters aren’t likely to be a top priority for Kunos, given that the sim racing market is huge in comparison.

The good news is that Kunos co-founder Marco Massarutto confirmed that modding would return after EVO’s initial early access period.

However, the not-so-good news is that he also stated that they intend to “create a platform where the modders can also work with cars and track licensors.” We’re yet to have more clarification on the matter, but it likely means they will focus on the best-known tracks worldwide rather than the niche drift tracks we’re hoping for.

If these limitations are as strict as they sound, the chances of us getting to throw our cars off the likes of the legendary jump at Ebisu’s Minami course (RIP) are increasingly unlikely. The existing Assetto Corsa modding community is somewhat of a grey area due to a lack of licensing and often “borrowing” existing content from other games.

Also, given the incredibly detailed laser-scanning of each track for EVO and the insane levels of detail they include, it’ll be pretty challenging since Minami was a dirt track, as decided by legendary drifter Nobushige Kumakubo‘s love for rallying.

A series of landslides following Japan’s frequent earthquakes at the Ebisu Complex made maintaining the tarmac on Minami a challenge. Kumakubo returned it to its previous gravel/dirt state, much to the sadness of the drifting community.

It’s far from doom and gloom for AC EVO, though, and there’s plenty to celebrate with the already-confirmed tracks for drifters and racers alike. Hopefully, the modding aspect will be more relaxed than it sounds, and we’ll also eventually get to drift our favorite courses and tracks once more (ahem, Minami!)

Tracks We’d Love To See In Assetto Corsa EVO

Although there might be a hint (or five) above, alongside the obvious, plenty of other great tracks are out there for drifting fans. Here are a few of our favorite ideas:

Long Beach

Most of you will be familiar with the iconic street circuit configuration used in Formula Drift. The good news is that the closed street circuit also hosts the “Grand Prix of Long Beach,” making it favorable for both racing and drifting fans.

Tsukuba Circuit

The original Assetto Corsa content completely neglected Japanese tracks, and even Tsukuba didn’t make the cut.

We hoped that the Japanese Pack DLC that they later introduced would incorporate this or the likes of Suzuka or Fuji Speedway, but it just came with a bunch of new JDM cars instead. If you’ve drifted Tsukuba in other games, you’ll know how much fun it is, and you can manji the entire circuit.

Thankfully, given that Fuji is confirmed for EVO, it’s already a step in the right direction!

Meihan Sports Land

Although unlikely, this would be an epic addition that will likely test the game’s mod support rather than coming officially from Kunos. Meihan is known for its crazy backward entries and is a favorite hangout for Naoki Nakamura and the rest of Team Burst.

Ebisu Complex

It’s not all about Minami! Many people don’t know this, but the Ebisu Complex has nine drift areas. Seven of these are tracks, and there are also two skid pads (called “KuruKuru Land”) and even a zoo!

One thing that gives us a glimmer of hope that Japan might finally get some love for Assetto Corsa EVO is the huge news that recently came from Kunos for the first time in the series… Free Roam mode!

Free Roam In Assetto Corsa EVO

When the official announcement trailer dropped, there was a “blink and you’ll miss it” moment where a Morgan Super-3 was passed by a BMW M4 traveling in the opposite direction. This doesn’t often happen on racetracks, and when it does, you should be pretty alarmed!

European fans familiar with the Nordschleife’s backroads immediately recognized the location, which sparked further speculation that it was beyond the track.

After plenty of rumors and speculation, Marco Massarutto cleared the air by declaring, “We confirm that what you have seen in the trailer will come to allow people just to drive for the pleasure of driving road cars on actual roads.”

He clarified that the team uses “a new terrain technology that can allow us to manage a very big map and hundreds of kilometres of roads.” With this, we hope that the team will realize the potential of Japan’s infamous touge roads and not focus purely on Europe.

Japan’s touge roads are the perfect location for open-world racing and drifting, made famous by the likes of Keiichi Tsuchiya in the old Hot Version videos.

Let’s not forget Gunsai Touge, a viral YouTube drifting sensation in recent years.

Another candidate should surely be the incredible Hakone region, also known as “Japan’s Nürburgring,” which manufacturers often use for vehicle testing. In true touge fashion, it features technical corners and spectacular Mt. Fuji views, perfect for showing off the sublime graphics we expect to see in AC EVO.

The open-road potential for EVO sounds incredible, and we can’t wait to see how it develops. We hope drifting is considered, unlike what we’ve seen from other titles such as Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport in recent years, where it was mostly neglected until (very) recently. Even now, FM’s drift mode is nothing compared to what we had in FM4 13 years ago!

It’s time for developers to do better for drifting fans, and we’re counting on you here, Kunos. No pressure!

Three more JDM favorites join TXR’s car lineup as Genki teases what appears to be the biggest news yet with the first glimpse of gameplay footage.

The highly anticipated return of Tokyo Xtreme Racer continues to build momentum ahead of its 2025 release.

The modern revival of the cult-classic street racing series promises to deliver high-stake highway battles in a futuristic Tokyo setting, and the latest reveal has got the rumor mill talking.

After the initial announcement left fans buzzing, Genki has steadily revealed its impressive vehicle roster, with three more Japanese performance icons recently joining the lineup.

However, what follows the latest car announcement is what’s really getting TXR fans excited.

Three New JDM Icons Unveiled

After the previous announcements of the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R V⋅spec II, Toyota Supra JZA80 MKIV, and Mazda RX-7 FD3S Type RZ, the growing lineup of epic JDM rides gets doubled with these recent additions:

Toyota GR86 RZ

The latest generation of Toyota’s beloved 86 platform will bring modern performance to TXR’s “future Tokyo” streets.

Powered by a naturally aspirated 2.4L boxer engine producing 231 horsepower in stock form (which we hope will once again be upgradeable), the GR86 carries forward the spirit of its predecessors while offering the latest tech and stunning aesthetics.

Toyota Corolla Levin GT-APEX AE86

Toyota’s legendary lightweight AE86 coupe needs no introduction to drift enthusiasts.

The Levin is the fixed-headlight sibling of the pop-up Trueno, which was made famous by the Initial D series and known for being the “Drift King” Keiichi Tsuchiya’s weapon of choice. Its perfect balance and responsive 4A-GE engine have made it arguably the best-known car in the drifting history books.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI Spec C

Reppin’ Subaru’s rallying heritage, the WRX STI brings something a little different from the previous unveilings thanks to its all-wheel-drive capabilities. Its turbocharged boxer engine and AWD system will undoubtedly make it a formidable opponent regardless of the weather.

Despite being best known for its rally exploits, the Impreza isn’t to be underestimated, as it’s not shy when it comes to getting sideways with a drivetrain swap. Also, let’s not forget that the Impreza (although the GC8 variant) was also the chosen touge car for Takumi’s father, Bunta Fujiwara, in Initial D.

The Next Big Reveal

Genki’s latest reveal at the end of the Impreza teaser breaks from its traditional vehicle announcement format. It features what appears to be actual in-game footage of the R34 GT-R and RX-7 FD3S weaving in and out of city traffic.

The brief glimpse showcases detailed night-time environments that channel strong Initial D vibes, suggesting we’re finally about to see what Tokyo Xtreme Racer will offer. If our suspicions are correct, this will mark the biggest TXR announcement, perfectly timed with the game’s approaching 2025 release window.

While more future car reveals are undoubtedly on the horizon, getting our first real look at gameplay has us more excited than ever for what Genki has in store. Here’s to hoping they’ll also showcase some sideways action!

Forza Motorsport’s Update 13 finally brings drifting back into the spotlight with a huge drift-focused update, and it’s about time, too!

Old-school FM fans will remember that once upon a time, Forza Motorsport 4 was the go-to game for virtual tire shredders. Since then, Turn 10 seemingly got less interested in drifting with each new installment, with sideways action completely neglected in the latest title – until now.

Coinciding with (the still weirdly-named and unnumbered) Forza Motorsport’s first anniversary, this substantial update finally introduces long-awaited features that drifting fans have been screaming out for since the game’s launch, along with a roster of brand-new (and also some previously seen) Formula DRIFT cars.

Forza Motorsport’s New Drift Mode

The new Drift Mode is now available in Free Play and Private Multiplayer modes. It offers various scoring options, including the best single-lap score, outright total score, and single continuous drift score (spanning multiple laps).

As in real-world drifting competitions, the scoring is based on speed, angle, and duration, and you’ll need to “bank” your scores for them to count. Crossing the finish line automatically banks the lap score and restarts scoring, allowing for continuous drifting action.

The drift scoring HUD returns and can be enabled in the Gameplay & HUD Settings menu. When enabled, the Drift Camera setting applies to both in-car and follow-cameras, providing a more immersive feel.

Drift Rivals Makes A Comeback

A “Drift Zone” tab has been added to Rivals mode, where you can compete for the highest Drift lap scores on leaderboards. These events feature specific car and track pairings, allowing for upgrades and tuning while restricting vehicles to rear-wheel drive only.

This is one of our favorites and perfect for those who don’t mind drifting offline. It allows you to learn how to perfect your drifting skills as you try to achieve the ultimate score on the leaderboards.

Formula DRIFT Cars (Finally) Return To The Roster

Seven Formula DRIFT cars have also been added to the game to celebrate the new Drift Mode. Some of which are brand-new, alongside some previous favorites:

  • 1997 Formula DRIFT #777 Nissan 240SX (Matt Field)
  • 2006 Formula DRIFT #43 Dodge Viper SRT10 (Dean Kearney)
  • 2020 Formula DRIFT #151 Toyota GR Supra (Fredric Aasbo)
  • 2015 Formula DRIFT #13 Ford Mustang (Justin Pawlak)
  • 2024 Ford #25 Mustang RTR (Vaughn Gittin Jr.) – NEW
  • 2024 Ford #88 Mustang RTR (Chelsea DeNofa) – NEW
  • 2024 Ford #130 Mustang RTR (James Deane) – NEW

Alongside the FD cars, there are also more new additions to the car lineup:

On Thursday, October 17, at midnight UTC, the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse will be gifted as a bonus car for players who own the Forza Motorsport Car Pass, Deluxe Edition, Premium Edition, or Premium Add-Ons Bundle.

That’s not all. Two more Mustangs are joining the stable as “Tour Reward” cars:

  • 1970 Ford #15 Mustang Boss 302 Trans Am
  • 2018 Saleen S302 Black Label

As you can see, Update 13’s “Mustang Month” focus has prioritized the Pony cars as the new additions, but we’re hoping to see plenty more pre-tuned pro-spec drift machines joining the roster shortly.

A Classic Track Is Also Revealed

The awesome news keeps on coming! Not only are we treated to the Drift Mode and new cars, but long-time fans of the series will be delighted to see the return of Sunset Peninsula, last seen in Forza Motorsport 4.

If you haven’t experienced it yet, make sure you head there right away! It’s a perfect track for drifting.

This track offers five layouts:

  • Full Circuit
  • Full Circuit Reverse
  • Club Circuit
  • Club Circuit Reverse
  • Oval Circuit (Speedway)

Turn 10 also confirmed that Bathurst will be the next track to join the lineup, expected to arrive with Update 15 in December. This will be the final track addition for the year, with more expected to come in 2025.

Is It Worth Getting Forza Motorsport For Drifting?

The long-overdue return of drifting to the Forza Motorsport series is a huge step in the right direction. If you’ve hesitated to jump in, this latest offers the perfect excuse for drifting fans to reconsider.

While the game, like most, had its share of rough spots at launch (Solar Crown, we’re looking at you!), it has steadily improved. The gameplay and physics are now well-refined, and a proper drifting mode was the main thing lacking for us – until now.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of the FM series or a newcomer, now’s an excellent time to give the latest game a shot. If things continue in this direction, it will be the best Forza drifting title since Forza Motorsport 4, Horizon aside.

There will likely still be a long wait until Forza Horizon 6 arrives, so it’s the perfect opportunity to try something new. While Forza Motorsport might be a little more “serious” and track-focused than Horizon, it’s a fantastic game for learning how to drift with more of a realistic simulator approach rather than the arcade-y vibes of the Horizon series.

If you’re looking for the ultimate virtual drifting experience, Assetto Corsa remains the top pick. The fact that there’s such an incredible mod community for the game makes the possibilities endless, and there’s a reason real-world pro drifters use AC for training. With Assetto Corsa EVO arriving soon, there are plenty of opportunities to bag yourself a bargain if you can be patient.

On the other hand, if patience isn’t your thing, we’ve got the perfect drifting game for you to play completely free in your browser right now – the Drifted-exclusive Drift Hunters MAX!
